Tá leithscéal gafa ag an iriseoir Rachel Johnson, deirfiúr an pholaiteora Boris Johnson, as ráiteas a rinne sí ag an deireadh seachtaine faoin nGaeilge agus reifreann an Ochtú Leasú.
Chuir an tvuít aisteach a sheol Johson amach Dé Sathairn, inar mhol sí iriseoirí Sky News as cloí leis an mBéarla seachas ‘Gaelic’, mearbhall ar mhórán.
Huge praise to @BethRigby and @KayBurley of @SkyNews who produced world class award winning reporting every step of the way of this powerful and moving and divisive story – and also helped comprehension (in mainland UK) by speaking in clear English not Gaelic throughout

Ireland is not a part of the U.K. at all so the “mainland U.K.” comment is very misinformed and a political faux-pas in the extreme. Just a heads up. Also we don’t speak Gaelic, it’s Gaeilge, and all reporting would be in English regardless.

Ghabh Johnson leithscéal aréir faoina ráiteas.
I made a moronic reference to “Gaelic” in my tweet about TV coverage of the Irish abortion referendum yesterday and Twitter has rightly pointed out in how many ways I fecked up in using that word. Sorry.

Shoiléirigh Johnson ina dhiaidh sin go raibh sí ag gabháil leithscéil chomh maith faoin gcuid sin den tvuít inar thagair sí do ‘mainland UK’.
Yes all of it! Apart from how brilliant the @SkyNews team was…

Mhol roinnt mhaith daoine ar Twitter Johnson as leithscéal a ghabháil agus mhol duine di ballraíocht a thógáil amach i gConradh na Gaeilge.
Maith thú !

Graceful apology – might be nice idea to take out a year’s membership of @CnaG as a way of finding out more about the Irish language :-) Slán. https://t.co/kycpCMHz0H

Ní thuigim cén fáth an ‘fuss’. Tá lucht na Gaeilge i bhfad ró leochaileach.
