San aighneacht réamhbhuiséid a chuir an Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta faoi bhráid an Rialtais, deirtear go bhfuil an Straitéis anois ag ‘pointe leochaileach’ agus tugtar le fios go bhfuil an baol ann go gceapfadh pobal na Gaeltachta nach bhfuil an Stát ‘dáiríre’ nó ‘macánta’ faoin teanga.
“The implementation of the 20 Year Strategy is now at a crucial juncture and the support of Gaeltacht communities will be very important.
“It is vital that these communities feel that they have full Government back up and that the State’s efforts with regard to the language are genuine and sincere,” a deirtear in aighneacht na Roinne .

D’fhág na ciorruithe atá curtha i bhfeidhm ar Roinn na Gaeltachta ó 2008 a rian ar obair na Roinne i réimse na teanga, a mhaítear.
“These reductions have severely curtailed the Department’s efforts to support Gaeltacht communities in their attempts to develop and implement language plans as outlined in the Government’s 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language.”
Léiríonn an aighneacht go bhfuil laghdú 29% tagtha ar an soláthar ón státchiste don Gaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hoileáin ón mbliain 2008.
Chuirfeadh tuilleadh ciorruithe iarrachtaí na Roinne feidhm a thabhairt don Straitéis ó mhaith, a deirtear.
“Further reductions would also jeopardise the implementation of the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language and the Department’s ability to comply with EU Directives, thereby increasing the possibility of censure and financial penalties in the Court of Justice of the European Union.”
Dhéanfadh tuilleadh ciorruithe dochar chomh maith don chóras pleanála teanga sa Ghaeltacht, a mháitear san aighneacht réamhbhuiséid.
“As language plans for various Language Planning Areas are rolled out there will be a need for the development of facilities such as family resource centres, resources for Coláistí Gaeilge, early childhood educational and developmental facilities, youth facilities and equipment etc.
“Any further reductions in current or capital funding on the Gaeltacht side would damage the perception of the Department in the Gaeltacht and would limit efforts of the Department and Údarás na Gaeltachta to advance the language planning process.”
Ciorrú 5% a bhí molta ag an Roinn Airgeadais don Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta i 2015, ach ardú beag de 1% a fógraíodh i mBúiséad na seachtaine seo caite.
